사업가, 인플루언서, 정치인과 같이 대중 앞에 서는 사람이라면 반드시 지켜야 할 원칙이 있다.
바로 이성 문제에서 단호하고 명확한 경계선을 갖는 것이다.
20여 년 전, 내가 창업했던 회사에도 사회적 지위가 높은 인물이 감사로 합류했다가 직원으로부터 성희롱 항의를 받은 일이 있었다. 그 이전 직장에서도 비슷한 문제로 직원이 사장에게 항의하던 장면이 떠오른다. 이런 문제에 더해 사장은 임금체불 관련 억울함을 호소하며 탄원서를 써달라고 요청하기도 했지만, 나는 깊이 얽히면 안 된다는 생각으로 거절했다.
정치권 역시 다르지 않다. 진보든 보수든 종종 성희롱·성폭력 논란이 터지고, 이는 곧 정치 생명에 치명적인 타격을 준다. 다만 진영에 따라 사건을 바라보는 태도나 기준이 다르게 나타나 피해자가 공격받는 기형적인 상황이 벌어지기도 한다.
인플루언서, 유튜버, 셀럽도 예외가 아니다.
일부 창작자들은 자극적인 콘텐츠로 이슈를 만들고 후원을 받으려다 성추문, 라이브 방송 중 부적절한 행동, 범죄 혐의로 채널이 폐쇄되거나 심각한 개인적 파국을 맞기도 했다.
그래서 대중 앞에 서 있는 사람들 중에는 스스로 엄격한 원칙을 만드는 이들도 있다.
예를 들어 어떤 유명 진행자는 “여성 스태프와 단둘이 있는 상황을 절대 만들지 않는다”는 규칙을 지킨다고 한다. 논란의 씨앗이 될 상황을 애초에 만들지 않기 위해서다.
최근의 한 정치인 사건도 마찬가지다. 당시 주변 상황을 찍은 영상 때문에 여러 해석이 나왔다. 촬영자의 의도, 감정적 상황, 정치적 목적 등 다양한 가능성이 제기되지만 중요한 건 남의 일이 아니라는 사실이다.
결국 이 문제는 특정인의 도덕성 판단을 넘어,
누구나 예기치 않게 휘말릴 수 있는 리스크라는 점을 잊지 말아야 한다.
그렇기 때문에 대중 앞에 서고자 하는 사람일수록
명확한 원칙, 거리두기, 기록, 공개적 절차 같은 보호 장치를 스스로 마련해야 한다.

About 20 years ago, a person of high social standing who had joined my startup company as an auditor received a complaint of sexual harassment from an employee. This reminds me of an incident at his previous workplace, where an employee protested to the CEO about a similar problem. For this reason, some individuals who stand in the public spotlight create strict personal rules for themselves.
For example, one famous host reportedly adheres to the rule of "never being alone with a female staff member." This is to avoid creating situations that could become the seed of controversy in the first place.
A recent incident involving a politician is similar. The video footage of the surrounding circumstances at the time led to various interpretations. While various possibilities such as the photographer's intent, the emotional situation, and political motives are raised, the crucial thing is that this is not someone else's problem.
Ultimately, this issue goes beyond judging the morality of a specific individual;
We must not forget that it is a risk into which anyone can unexpectedly be dragged.
Therefore, the more a person desires to stand in the public eye, the more they must personally establish safeguards such as clear principles, maintaining distance, documentation, and public procedures.
