[Virtual Experience Review] A Guest Visit to Soprano Yoo Mija’s Year-End Dinner Concert

I am in my sixties and run a small to mid-sized business.
Because of my work, I attend a fair number of year-end dinners and cultural events, so I came to this concert without particularly high expectations—more with the thought, “It should be a pleasant enough way to close the year.”

The venue was “Nojakga’s Ajit, 2nd Floor.”
It was not a large concert hall, but rather an intimate, quiet space for a small audience, which initially made me think it would be a light, casual event.

The ticket price was 120,000 KRW.
Considering that it included dinner and wine, I found it neither especially cheap nor expensive—simply a reasonable, standard price.

However, once the performance began, my impression quickly changed.

Although the stage was small, the volume, tone, and sustained focus of Soprano Yoo Mija were on a level not very different from the formal recital performances I have heard at major concert halls such as the Seoul Arts Center.
Rather than forcing high notes with sheer power, she filled the space with breath control and resonance, which was particularly impressive.

As the concert drew to a close, the final aria completely transformed the atmosphere.

“A woman’s soliloquy collapsing between madness and love after killing Ragnardo.”

Even that brief description suggests a heavy dramatic moment, but on stage, the narrative was carried through every single breath and phrase.

She sustained long, continuous lines without breaking them, and even as the melodic range climbed higher, the sound never lost its stability.
At that moment, even the clinking of dishes and glasses faded away, and people naturally straightened in their seats, fully absorbed in the stage.

Calling it a “dinner event” no longer felt appropriate.
The room had truly become a small opera theater.

Another memorable aspect was that this was not merely a place to watch a performance.
Before and after the concert, guests from many different fields were able to greet one another and converse naturally—not in a stiff networking atmosphere, but in a genuinely comfortable, human way.
Near my table, I noticed two foreign ambassadors, and they appeared thoroughly pleased, watching attentively until the very end with relaxed smiles.

The meal itself was neither excessive nor sparse.
It was a concise course that did not distract from the performance, and the wine was served with restraint and care.
Rather than feeling like a dinner with a show attached, it felt more like a music-centered concert, with the meal naturally accompanying it.

On the way home, one simple thought remained:

“Judging purely by the artistic quality of this stage, 120,000 KRW does not feel expensive at all.”

Considering that it was a full classical performance accompanied by dinner and wine, the price felt more than reasonable—indeed, comfortably justifiable.

For those whose year-end gatherings have often felt loud and purely formal, this place may leave a very different kind of memory.

This was less a party, and more a quiet performance that gently allowed one to close out the year.
