| BuntGames

We think we are arguing with ideas, but in reality, we are arguing with words.

Don’t get trapped in labels created by those who feed on issues.
Call the rabbit “hardline” or the turtle “moderate”—
their nature doesn’t change.
What changes is only our standard.

Hardline, moderate, realistic, compromise.
These words look like explanations, but they are already conclusions.
Depending on which word is used, a person can appear reasonable—or extreme.

Two people can make the same argument,
yet one is called “realistic,”
while the other is labeled “hardline.”
What changed is not the content, but the name attached to it.

And that is where the problem begins.
We no longer examine the substance.
We react to the label.

So why does this keep happening?

Because words are fast.
They summarize positions without long explanations
and compress complex contexts into something instantly digestible.

As a result, information gets shorter,
and judgment gets faster.

At that point, words stop being tools
and become filters—
deciding what we see and what we ignore.

For example,
if a statement is introduced as a “hardline position,”
it creates resistance before we even hear it.
But if the same idea is framed as “realistic,”
it suddenly becomes easier to accept.

This can be intentional,
or simply the result of habit and repetition.
What matters is the outcome.

The word arrives before the meaning.

So we believe we have made a judgment,
when in fact we have followed a pre-shaped impression.

But we cannot simply discard words.
Without them, our thinking becomes vague.
The problem is not the existence of words—
but the moment they replace thinking.

What we need is not a grand solution,
but a small delay.

When we hear a word,
we do not jump to a conclusion immediately.
We ask one more question:

What is actually being demanded?
What does this choice change?
Who is affected by the outcome?

With that one step,
words return to being tools.

Instead of “hardline,” ask what is being pushed.
Instead of “moderate,” ask what is being conceded.
Instead of “realistic,” ask what is being accepted.
Instead of “compromise,” ask what is being given up.

What we need to escape is not a particular position,
but the speed imposed by words.

Words are necessary.
But our judgments do not have to be faster than our thinking.

Thinking can afford to be just a little slower.
